Series 5500Fully automatic espresso machine

I looked at various brands of coffee machine, but philips appeared to be the easiest to use. I have several Philips products and I am very happy with the ease of use and reliability.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Overall I have been very impressed with the 5500 Series. It makes lovely coffee, particularly the espresso which has a great flavour and lovely crema. Milky coffees are easy when you can just pop the milk into the LatteGo container, hook it on and it froths itself. A great range of preset drinks are available on the touchscreen, and all are easily customisable to your strength and size preferences. Cleaning is straightforward, with most removable parts dishwasher safe and reminders to empty grounds or clean as needed. I was after an easy machine and this definitely ticks that box. My only quibble has been that the size options in mls don't quite seem to line up with what comes out. For example, I set 150ml 'frothed milk' for my daughter's babycino, and added 150ml of milk to the LatteGo, and it only used perhaps a quarter of that. It's easy enough to run another cycle and I'm learning how much I need to add now, but it would be nice if the stated mls lined up with what came out.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The Philips 5500 Series is small, compact, and doesn’t come with many loose parts which makes unpacking quick and uncomplicated. The set up manual contains pictures only which I thought would be hard to follow, but found surprisingly easy. The machine takes you through setup step-by-step via the display and from unpacking to setup it only took around 30 minutes. The machine is fully automatic so it gives you the benefits of freshly ground coffee in the press of a button. The automatic milk frother that attaches to the machine has less moving parts than my existing standalone milk frother which makes it significantly easier to wash and setup. You can also adjust the coffee/milk levels to suit a smaller or larger cup. We drink mostly lattes, flat whites and long blacks. The long blacks are better tasting and less bitter than what I used to make from my pod coffee machine. The milk coffees also come out strong and flavourful from the fresh beans, comparable to cafe bought coffees.

Installation and set up were really easy with the handy instructions on the machine’s screen and there is a QR code on leaflet included which has a manual plus videos too. My first trial drink was an espresso followed by a latte. I haven’t tried out the milk frother yet as I seem to be having some trouble with locking it in place as it leaks when the machine does a clean, but I’ll refer to the manual for that. It’s a great looking machine! The drink menu and screen are nice to look at and it’s easy to go through the steps of making a coffee from start to finish. I like that the machine cleans itself before turning off. Also, amazed at how automatic this machine is! There is no portafilter or tampering required! Big plus for me! Once I get the hang of using the milk frother and making a few more test coffees, I’m really excited to use this coffee machine and make it a part of my daily coffee ritual.

I love that it is fully automatic and simply takes the push of a button to make my favourite coffee (which it remembers so I don't have to adjust settings every time I use it). As a mum to 2 under 2 this machine is an absolute life saver. My only recommendation is to use coffee beans instead of ground coffee. This machine is absolute perfection and I would recommend it to everyone and anyone.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Wow. What an absolutely outstanding machine. Upon 1st setting up, I was overwhelmed with the choices. However, a very quick scan of the qr code that came with the instruction manual showed me how easy it is to set up. And let me tell you, once it's set up (less than 10 minutes - and that includes washing everything), you will be amazed at how quick and easy it is to use. The coffee options are plenty (I had to do a google search for some of the coffee choices - there are that many!!!) Both hot and cooler options. It even has different profiles to save your favourite, to be honest it's probably not necessary as it is all automated and simply need to touch the screen to make your selection and customise the options to suit you. The machine size itself is perfect, and cleaning it is a breeze. It really is cafe quality coffee, in the comfort of your own home. It can be a bit on the noisier side, but nothing over the top and no different to the noise of a professional coffee machine.

You don’t need to have done a barista course to get a nice taste or rely on a thermometer or guesswork to know if your milk is hot enough. If you have guests over you can cater to basically all their coffee preferences with all the drink options available. No more one coffee type for all. The machine made consistently great coffee. The strength, temperature and taste was constant from cup to cup. There’s no need for extra accessories like with a semi automatic machine and the fact that the milk container can be placed in the fridge in between use makes it so much quicker and easier, with less waste. If you want easy, consistent, tasty cafe style coffee at home this machine is a must.

I love that the machine allows you to set up multiple profiles, you can adjust each setting to save your coffee shot strength, how much coffee and milk. I also enjoy you can make iced coffee, dispense just hot water, milk, the options are great. The water tank is a good size that you do not need to refill constantly. The machine was very easy to set up.

Setup was easy as the machine guides you through step by step, and the QR code link to a helpful video meant set up was a breeze. As big coffee drinkers that usually purchased coffees in cafes, we weren't sure if a machine could make coffee as well as a barista, but it actually does! We were so impressed with how easy the machine is to use and how we can easily adjust settings to have our coffee the exact size and strength that we want. And it is so helpful having multiple profiles so that we can save our favourite drinks. Not to mention the incredible variety with 20 different got and cold coffee drinks to choose from. We have already saved so much money from not buying coffees in cafes anymore, because we can now make the same quality coffee at home. My fiance says that this coffee machine is his favourite thing that we own now, and I don't doubt it!
